Appointment of Independent Chair of the Improvement Board

Following on from Ofsted's inspection of children's services and the actions being taken, there has been another important step forward with the appointment of Tony Crane as the independent chair of the Improvement Board. 

Preston Youth Zone

After prolonged negotiations, the Preston Youth Zone scheme is now moving forward and will be submitted for planning permission early in 2016. There is still much work to do beyond that point including re-working the bus station, but we are now hopeful that a start to building the Youth Zone could be made in early 2017.

Ensuring local communities benefit from development

Ministers have launched a review to ensure local communities benefit from development.  The review will come forward with proposed measures to ensure that developers are meeting their contribution to improved local infrastructure.

ONE Lancashire Position Paper - December 2015

Following debate and consultation, the directors of ONE Lancashire wish to express the position of the organisation and its potential to play a part in enabling the ‘voice’ for the VCFS in Lancashire. The discussion paper, ‘Establishing a One Lancashire VCF Forum’, which was accepted by directors at their meeting on 16 October 2015, is a starting point for achieving a cohesive voice for the VCFS in Lancashire.

Careers advice, information and guidance inquiry launched

A new Parliamentary Committee, the Sub-Committee on Education, Skills and the Economy,  formed by members of the Education Committee and the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee, has launched an inquiry looking at careers advice, information and guidance.

Wellbeing Prevention and Early Help Service (YPS) Small Grants scheme, available to registered groups and individual young people aged 12 – 19 (up to 25 for young people with a recognised learning difficulty or disability), still has funding available in its 2015 – 2016 allocation.
