MUNRO SAFEGUARDING REVIEW - CALL FOR EVIDENCE FROM VCFS GROUPS A “call for evidence” from Professor Eileen Munro undertaking the Munro Safeguarding Review is currently being requested – and as key partners, the VCFS have a role to play in this. Professor Munro is seeking views and evidence in a number of different ways, starting with evidence of local innovations and new approaches to child protection as well as improved front-line social work practice. The four key areas she is seeking evidence on are early intervention, frontline practice, transparency and accountability.
Lancashire’s Directorate for Children and Young People is preparing a coordinated response to the call for evidence, to include the views of managers and various staff groups; children and young people are being alerted to the process and information available to them so that they can respond if they wish.
As a LCTPB member, we are really looking for your input . Please use the attached form and return. Please could you return it to me ASAP by Friday 30th July.

Background
The overarching remit of the Safeguarding Review which is being led by Professor Eileen Munro is to:
strengthen the profession so that social workers are in a better position to make well-informed judgements, based on up-to-date evidence, in the best interests of children, free from unnecessary bureaucracy and regulation. (Munro)
Professor Munro intends to identify new and innovative examples of good practice with an aim to understanding how they were made possible and what obstacles had to be overcome. She also aims to learn about more cost-effective practice and is mindful of the challenging financial climate in which local services are now operating.
Professor Munro has been asked to produce a first report in September 2010, an interim report in January 2011 and a final report by April 2011.
